A Peaceful Cottage

One of my very favorite homes in blogland belongs to Tessa at Nine and Sixteen.  It is calm, and serene, and cottage without being over the top about it.  It is natural enough that it doesn't seem over decorated and looks like it would be a joyful place to spend time in.  I believe that she worked with Holly Mathis in some of the spaces which isn't surprising to me because Holly's style speaks to me as well.

She recently redid her office and I know I would want to spend all of my time in there but I also wonder if I would be able to work, instead I might just sit and gaze at all of the loveliness all day.

So, so lovely.  One of these days our home may be at the peaceful stage too!

Good morning!

Weekends spent puttering around the house are my favorite!  Hope some of that good feeling carries over into Monday!

So fresh and so clean!

Spring is officially here and it's time to get things freshened up.  We have had our windows open a lot lately to air out the house and I have been doing some tweaks here and there to lighten the feel of the house.  A deep clean is next in order but for now, here is some inspiration for how I want our home to feel for Spring.

Happy Spring!

We never seemed to really get winter here this year, until last week.  Here's to hoping spring comes back and sticks around pretty soon!

Erin go Bragh

Here in Savannah everyone is Irish on St. Patty's Day, even if only honorarily.  In celebration of the wearing of the green here are some rooms that wear it exceptionally well!

May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you, and all your heart might desire.  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Good morning Monday!

It was a great weekend, with lots of things accomplished and lots of fun had, but Monday mornings are hard.  Wouldn't coffee and breakfast in this refreshing kitchen be nice?!?

Farmhouse Style

Farmhouse style, it seems to be the ubiquitous direction for homes as of late.  It seems that all I see is ship-lap and burlap and painted furniture and barn doors.   Don't get me wrong, I love Joanna Gaines as much as the next person, but are we really just creating the next throwaway decor fad?  Is the abundance of ship-lapped walls in obviously new homes going to make people cringe the same way sponge painted walls did in the 90's?

This new home is going up along my drive to work and I would love to see how the interiors are done.

That being said, I looooooove cottage style, which is really just a take on farmhouse.  And ship-lapped walls in an older home add so much charm.  I like to believe that a lot of these elements are actually classic in design and won't pinpoint a home as sooooooo 2016.  Some of my favorites:

Open shelves, I will love these always and forever.

Apron front sinks have seen a lot of popularity for the last several years and I think they are going to prove to be a classic.

And ticking stripes or grain sacks:

Butcher Block counter-tops always look lovely and I think they will always be a mainstay as long as people continue to do their own renovations, if simply for the cost and ease of installation.

I do love a lot of elements of country style but it will be interesting to see if some of these extremely popular trends really have staying power or not.

More coffee please

Why do weekends always go by too quickly?!?!  This is the only kind of morning grind I feel like getting behind today!

Here's to a productive and stress free week!

Michelle Prentice Interiors

I got my March issue of Southern Living the other day and was totally captivated by the home on the front cover.

It turns out this adorable cottage was designed by Michelle Prentice, from Beaufort, S.C.  Her portfolio doesn't appear to have images of this guest cottage in it yet but I love the other spaces she has designed.  All images from Prentice Interiors.

I think I love the guest cottage best just because I am currently so smitten with simplicity and small house living.  But man, she is GOOD!
