Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend and makes the most of this extra day off.  But let's not forget the reason behind it and at least think of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Summer at the Beach - Jane Coslick cottages

I grew up on Tybee Island, a barrier island just outside of Savannah.  In recent years it has gained in popularity and there has been a boom of new construction.  But at the same time a lot of the original beach cottages and shacks are being renovated.  One of the best re-habbers of these properties is Jane Coslick.

She is so good at keeping the original elements, and while updating the homes, not losing their originality, charm, and quirks.  A lot of these had modest beginnings and it's refreshing to see them maintain their simplicity even when surrounded by the newer "beach" version of the McMansion.

All photos from Jane's website.

A lot of the cottages she has renovated are available as rentals so if you are looking for a beach vacation check them out!  Tybee is always a great place to visit!

Up and at 'em

Good Monday Morning!  It's going to be a great week!  After some coffee at least.

Some Favorites from the One Room Challenge Spring 2017 Edition

There were so many great finished spaces from the One Room Challenge.  I have spent the last week going through them and still haven't seen every single one!

I really liked Artsy Chicks Rule's Laundry Room.  It is the perfect blend of Coastal and Farmhouse, both styles I really like!

Another was Sypsie Design's powder room which is no surprise as I always like their projects, especially bathrooms!

Tiny House Giant Life's Entry turned out so well!  Her house has so much charm and they really enhanced it!

Laura Design Co's Family Room is beautiful!  Those ceilings and the light and airy feel make the space!

Kobel and Company's Big Girl Room is adorable.  I love the Hunt Slonem valance, the art work  and that daybed!

Grey or Green Seattle's Office is another stunner.   I love those moody walls and the light fixture is perfect!

I am so thankful that Linda hosts this event!  It feels so good to cross a room off of the to do list and seeing what everyone comes up with is so inspiring!

Blue and White and Wonderful

This weekend was wonderful but as usual too short!  Hope everyone's week begins as beautifully as The Pink Pagoda's ORC reveal!

One Room Challenge - Cleaning Up the Master Bath - The Reveal!

Time's up!  And thank goodness.  Having a finished room is great but the mess and upheaval that go along with getting there can be a bit much at times.

A very big THANK YOU! is owed to Linda, at Calling It Home, for hosting this crazy incentive to get a space finished.  The One Room Challenge is a platform allowing us all to follow along as 20 design bloggers redesign a space.  She also allows anyone with a blog to link up and share a makeover we complete in the 6 week time frame.

This is my fourth time participating in the ORC.  Our maiden voyage was a complete redo of our laundry room, then we tackled our front porch a year ago, and last fall we did over our son's bedroom.  This time around was a face lift on our formerly nondescript master bath.  So nondescript in fact that I never even took any adequate before pictures.  But I do have some afters!

This was truly just a face lift.  There was a lot of paint involved and not a lot of time simply because we were out of town for around half of this 6 week time frame.  But I am loving how the deep walls turned out with the crisp trim and high wainscoting.  The turquoise vanity really pops and the brass accents really glam it up in my opinion.  We did intersperse the brass with some oil rubbed bronze as well because I love me some mixed metals, and I think too much brass can really go over the top.  But I love the space so much and it has been so nice to have a finished, "adult" space to get ready in.  Even the hubs commented that it was nice to have a grown up space again since we gave up our old really nice bathroom when we moved.  The One Room Challenge is such a great kick in the pants to really push through and finish a space, and I'm so glad this round is done.

Now it's time to rest . . . . and go see how everyone else's room turned out!

Rise and Shine!

Waking up wouldn't be hard to do, even on a Monday, in a light, bright, beautiful space like this one by Holly Shipman!

One Room Challenge - Cleaning up the Master Bath - Week 5

Yay!  It's that time again!  Linda, from Calling It Home, is once again hosting the the One Room Challenge.  This is a platform allowing us all to follow along as 20 design bloggers redesign a space.  She also graciously allows anyone with a blog to link up and share a makeover we complete during the 6 week time frame.

This is my fourth time taking part in the Challenge.  Our first foray into the madness was our laundry room, then for our second we redid our front porch, and last fall we freshened up our son's room.  This go around we are focusing on our master bath.  This is not a full scale renovation but simply a lipstick on the pig kind of situation.  It's amazing how far some paint and new fixtures and accessories can go though!

I debated whether we should even participate this time because we have been so busy with life and work.  We spent the first full week in Disney and then came Easter, and then a weekend that we were able to work on it, and this past weekend we spent in Atlanta.  So we haven't made a lot more progress but we have gotten the rooms functional again.  The lighting is back up and towel bars are in, along with the ever important toilet paper holder.  Funnily enough we have lived without one for most of our time in this house so it is really nice to have one again.

In our remaining week we have got to finish all the final details, the shelving, the art, any accessories.  I'm getting to work but not before I check in on everyone else's space!

Monday's Mantra

This has been the going-est year I have had in a very long time and it is starting to wear me out.  We just got back from spending some time with some great friends in Atlanta but the house is trashed, laundry needs doing, the master bathroom still needs a lot of work, and the work week beckons.

This is from Waiting on Martha's One Room Challenge last spring and I really feel her art is something I need to be keeping front and center in my mind right now!

Happy Monday!
