Farmhouse Style

Farmhouse style, it seems to be the ubiquitous direction for homes as of late.  It seems that all I see is ship-lap and burlap and painted furniture and barn doors.   Don't get me wrong, I love Joanna Gaines as much as the next person, but are we really just creating the next throwaway decor fad?  Is the abundance of ship-lapped walls in obviously new homes going to make people cringe the same way sponge painted walls did in the 90's?

This new home is going up along my drive to work and I would love to see how the interiors are done.

That being said, I looooooove cottage style, which is really just a take on farmhouse.  And ship-lapped walls in an older home add so much charm.  I like to believe that a lot of these elements are actually classic in design and won't pinpoint a home as sooooooo 2016.  Some of my favorites:

Open shelves, I will love these always and forever.

Apron front sinks have seen a lot of popularity for the last several years and I think they are going to prove to be a classic.

And ticking stripes or grain sacks:

Butcher Block counter-tops always look lovely and I think they will always be a mainstay as long as people continue to do their own renovations, if simply for the cost and ease of installation.

I do love a lot of elements of country style but it will be interesting to see if some of these extremely popular trends really have staying power or not.
