One Room Challenge - Operation Bigger Boy Room Week 1

Yay!  It's that time again!  Linda, from Calling It Home, is once again hosting the One Room Challenge.  This is a platform allowing us all to follow along as 20 design bloggers redesign a space.  She also graciously allows anyone with a blog to link up and share a makeover we complete during the 6 week time frame.

This is my third time participating in the ORC.  Last fall we redid our laundry room and in the spring we redid our front porch.  This time around we are going to be working on getting our 5 year old's room more worthy of being called a big boy room.  This room shouldn't be as heavy on the construction and renovation side of things which was a factor in choosing it.  I seriously considered either the kitchen or the kids bathroom but we have a bunch of things going on in October along with some gatherings planned for our house and I don't want public spaces in the house to be at risk of being torn up for company.  Also, I think the hubs may not currently be up for heavy labor since he and his dad just laid floors throughout the public spaces and we still have bedroom floors to get done.

We did decide to go ahead and install the new flooring in the boy's room this past weekend so we wouldn't have to worry about making time for that during the 5 remaining weeks, and it's a good thing we did because we currently have Hurricane Mathew breathing down our necks and may not even be at home this weekend in advance of his arrival.  Since we were experiencing the effects of Hermine over Labor Day when we laid most of the floor and have Mathew coming at us now after we laid this bedroom, I am wondering what the universe is telling us about the flooring we chose!

But, let's cut to the chase, here are some before pics of the room.  We almost forgot to get some before moving everything out to redo the floors so excuse the drawer-less dressers.  They do have them, we had just already taken them out.

And here is the space with the shiny new floors!  So, much brighter and cleaner looking.  We did already move furniture back in but will be doing a lot of rethinking and rearranging of things in the weeks to come.

Next week I will have some design plans and inspiration so I hope you come back to see, and in the meantime I can't wait to see who else decides to show up and what they plan on doing!  And of course follow along with the featured designers!  Thank you so much Linda for hosting this party!!!
