Editing

I have mentioned before that I love new beginnings and fresh starts.  Part of the reason I love fall is because it reminds me of back to school and the delicious feeling of starting over.  And I love the New Year and purging and organizing.  Or I did until I married someone born in January, and then had a child VERY early in January.  And then another in early February.  So now it's more about survival for the first 6 weeks of the year rather than contemplation and editing and refining.  So I am finally coming up for air now and starting to think about getting things together, and cleaning out some closets, and making sure our current organizational strategies are working.  And then when I happened to glance at my weekly horoscope I found that this week I should be clearing out and letting go to make room for fresh!  How apropos!  AND, I recently discovered The Home Edit on Instagram and need to share some of their beautifully composed spaces.  All pictures from their website.

Maybe I will be able to carve out some time soon to get to work on my own house, but until then I'll continue to collect inspiration from their Instagram!

White and bright!

It's a grey morning here. which made it even harder to get out of bed and make the commute to work.  I would much rather be drinking coffee in this gorgeous kitchen.

It's going to be a great week!

A Little Nostalgia and Margot Austin

I am a re-reader.  I always have been.  Sure I love a good, new book, but I possibly love even more the comfort of one I have read before and know I love.  Some of this may have been a coping mechanism when I was younger because I would read books faster than I could get new ones, but I still love to do it.  I have saved most of my favorite old magazines and go through those frequently as well.  So, not surprisingly I sometimes read back through blogs, including ones I read years ago when I first discovered blogs and who have quit posting.  I think I like the feelings evoked and the way they can take me back to who I was at specific moments in time, like going back to blogs that I read when we had just purchased our first house and had no real money to do much with, so the blogs were inspiration for little vignettes and thrift store finds, etc.  But the recession was beginning, so lots of people were in the same boat.  We have more money now for projects but sometimes I still crave that experience of making do.  All of that is to say, I was reading The Newlywed Diaries the other day and came across a kitchen that I love, in fact I think I may have it Pinned to multiple boards, and discovered the portfolio of Toronto based creative Margot Austin.  These images are all from her site.

This is that kitchen.

And some other beauties, some I have seen before and some are new to me!

That kitchen I love so much was done around ten years ago!  And I still love it and it still feels fresh to me!  Just to show that good design can be timeless, and when you are working on your home you should always go with your gut and what you love!  AND you can always find something new in everything, even things you have read or seen before!

Peppy in Pink

This morning I really wish my office space was looking a little less cubicle grey and a lot more like this bright space!

Home Again

I am not really big into movies.  I enjoy them occasionally, but I'd rather be reading a book.  And once we had kids I noticed that I almost resent the time commitment a movie (or ongoing TV series) requires.  That being said, over Christmas break I was sick and spent quite a bit of time laying on the sofa.  One evening, after I had exhausted all of the episodes of Law & Order SVU that Netflix has, I watched The Holiday.  Jude Law, mmmmmm.  And I love Kate Winslet's character's cottage.  Which got me thinking about Nancy Meyer's films in general.  Cause I know that EVERYONE loves them.  And their interior scenes!  And of course the set of Home Again, a collaboration between Nancy Meyers and her daughter Hallie Meyers Shyer, is just as good as the rest, and I'm offering nothing new to the conversation.  But, it's clear the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the Meyers family!

I love how feminine the home feels, and look at the terra cotta floors!  It reminds me of some of my old issues of Cottage Living.  The whole home has such a warm feel, it plays well with the Spanish Revival architecture.  And I think that cool colors have reigned for so long but  warmer tones are going to be enjoying a little Renaissance for a bit.  So, so pretty.
