Shelved Plans
So, pretty much as soon as we finished the kids' bath my mom took the kids to her house for almost a week. We don't know how to not have kids and actually do fun stuff so we decided to use the opportunity of two empty rooms to empty our closet and remake it. I don't have any pictures of it as it used to exist but it was simply the standard wire shelves with a space for hangers attached. An upper level was hung in a u-shape and the bottom rear of the closet had an additional shelf.
It was not particularly functional, I hated those little dividers that kept me from sliding everything all the way over as I looked for stuff, and the hubs felt he didn't have enough room. I also kept some folded clothing in the closet in a wire drawer basket slide out thing from Ikea. It worked, but not well.
So last time we were in Atlanta we stopped at Ikea and picked up 2 Rast dressers (which they DO NOT MAKE ANYMORE!!!!!) to create a built in dresser with shelving. We got it all built, barely, before the kids came home. Most things got some paint but maybe not as much as they would have if they were in a more visible spot, but it is what it is and it is fine for closet. We have so much more space for everything. We ended up with 2 rods and 2 shelves on the hubby's side and one full length rod and shelf and one 3/4 length rod and shelf on my side. With the Rasts and shelving straight ahead when you walk in.
The pictures are pretty terrible, it's a pretty small space, and I treat it as a completely utilitarian one. But it is soooooo wonderful, getting dressed in the morning is no longer stressful and we can completely see what we have. So happy to have this project done!

Happy Monday!
Why are weekends so short?!?!? There is never enough time to get everything done and have fun. Sure wish my kitchen was as clean and fresh as this one instead of the disaster area that it is!
Hope this week is great!

Summertime
This has been a crazy busy summer and I am almost ready for school to start back just to get some normalcy back in our lives. But at the same time I know that the crazy may continue since our youngest starts Pre-K this year. But in the vein of peaceful summer spaces here are some that are really relaxing to me.
Here's to a calm end to a crazy summer!

Rain, Rain, Go Away
I love a rainy day, but only if it means I get to sit at home and read and nap. Unfortunately this rainy day will be spent at work and not in Brit's gorgeous window nook!
Happy Monday!

Year of the Bathrooms Round 2
Well, we finished the lipstick job on our main bathroom. And in celebration we started our next project! We are insane. But this bathroom situation really was just a lot of paint. Except our new laminate counter didn't work out so the hubs built a new one from wood. With a cute little shelf. All of which we painted in marine grade paint. And if I have anyone else ask me, "really, a bathroom counter out of wood?" I may lose it. Marine. Grade. Paint. People. It says not for use below the water line but a boat gets spray above that. And my kids can be messy but surely not enough to fully immerse the entire counter top!
Anyway, pictures. The room gets NO natural light and is an awkward shape so . . . . . .
It really brightened up the bath and has made it look more intentionally done which was the whole goal. We will still probably be doing a bigger overhaul sometime down the road but I really hope this lasts us at least 2 years.
And now on to our master closet! We really may be crazy. . . . . . .

DeVOL Kitchens
OK, can I first say that I am LOVING all of the stove alcove's I have been seeing lately. It would not work for the layout in my kitchen and that makes me sad but I love the way people are incorporating them in their homes. Elizabeth Demos seems to be installing one in her new kitchen, and Lauren Leiss has done them, and of course there is Maura Endres.
But I am saying all of that to lead into some beautiful kitchens all courtesy of DeVOL kitchens. Love all of their spaces so much. Their aesthetic is so timeless yet also so representative to me of the modern country style that is everywhere. Without being kitschy.
Love these all so much and I know that if we ever move odds are good there will be a stove alcove!
